The Girl with a Pearl Earring Illusion (or perhaps she should be called The Girl with a Purl Earring) has been designed to be viewed from the side so is intended to be used as a wall hanging or as the centre of a bed cover. It is based on the painting by Johannes Vermeer.
The version shown in the photos used approximately 225gms in each of two colours of DK yarn, knitted tightly, and measures 83cm by 96cm.Any yarn could be used though this may change the overall size of the piece.
For use as a bed cover a border could be added to bring the piece up to the desired size.
Even though the design looks complicated the easy-to-follow chart should mean that this illusion knit can be undertaken by most knitters.
The last photo shows what you see when you look straight at the knitting.
***The hanging shown in the photos has now had a border added and been acquired by Ripley's Believe It or Not! The pattern is still available for everyone.***
September 2013: All illusion patterns now include an extra chart intended for tablet users but others may also find them helpful. You can view 20 ridges at a time and always be able to see the numbers across the bottom of the chart. Never lose your place again!
