Kasuri: Japanese word for fabric that has been woven with fibers dyed specifically to create patterns and images in the fabric. Also known as IKAT a resist-dyeing technique. The patterns have a blurred or brushed appearance.Ranging from simple mottled effects to abstract geometric motifs and free form representations of natural plant life. The warp and weft threads are resist-dyed in specific patterns. Prior to dyeing, sections of the warp and weft yarns are tightly wrapped with thread to protect them from the dye. When woven together, the un-dyed areas interlace to form patterns and many variations are possible. Kasuri patterns may be applied to the warp or to the weft; or to both the warp and the weft. There are many techniques used to create kasuri.

FAQs

Japanese silk kimonos shouldn't be washed using water, this might make them loose shape and color. So dry clean only for silk :) If you think they smell a bit dusty or moldy you can hang them outside on a sunny day. I do this myself and the odd smell, if any, usually goes away after a few days of airing :) For wool and cotton garments you can wash them by hand or in the washing machine with gentle cycle inside a protective net (or pillow case if you don't have any).

I do my packaging with recycled cardboard or white enveloppes made from recycled chopsticks and I protect the items inside with a plastic bag or bubble wrap. If you don't want me to use plastic I will gladly change the packaging material.

From 100$ orders everybody can get 10% discount, 200$ = 20% discount, codes SALE1 and SALE2. For bigger orders please contact me with the list of items you want to buy, I migth give you a bigger discount depending on the items.

Sizing of Japanese kimonos is a bit special. They are made to fit many body sizes and shapes because you can adjust them on your body in length with the belt and width when you close it on your breast. There is no size sign on kimonos so I just write down measurements. Japanese kimonos and haoris normally fits up to US12 size. Usually the more recent the bigger, so Taisho kimonos (pre-WWII) are always narrower than the modern ones.

I accept returns of items in original condition but buyer must pay for the shipping costs. As soon as I receive the item in it's original condition I will refund the item minus 5% relisting fee.
