Item details

This comb is a super handy tool for designing inkle woven bands.
Once you've created a pattern on paper or in your design program, you can do a quick test to actually see the pattern as it will look in your woven band without having to set up the loom.
Use the comb and in minutes you can have a sample of your woven pattern.

When a friend told me about this trick, I thought it was brilliant!
So, I set out to find just the right comb with long, straight, strong teeth. When I did, I bought them in bulk.
Now, I'm happy to share the idea and send you one!

Have a closer look at the detail in the photos by clicking on the magnifying glass icon to enlarge them.
You will see how closely the woven versions on the combs mimic the straps themselves, woven on the loom. (The row spacing is different, however.) In the case of the black and green strap in the last two photos, I decided to change the pattern a bit after weaving the sample on the comb.

This item was manufactured as a hair pick, sporting a black plastic handle with upraised fist.
And, it just so happens that the manufacturer's name is Annie, like mine!
It is set with 12 metal teeth which measure 2 3/4" long.
Overall dimensions: 5 3/4" long.
Handle: 3" long
Width: 2 3/4"

This design tip is one of many that will be in my upcoming book "In Celebration of Plain Weave: Color and Design Inspiration for Inkle Weavers". Look for it in early 2018.

I got this so fast I was confused that I had a small package in the mail! Annie's level of professionalism and her generosity in teaching are excellent examples for others who run small businesses.
