All our mint decimal stamps are fully valid and suitable for postage as well as adding to your collection or adorning your crafts. Even the used and pre-decimal ones can be used to decorate your envelopes too – the post doesn’t seem to mind. Just make sure you have the correct amount of unused postage!

Stamps make great gifts – visit www.arcphilatelics.wordpress.com/gift-ideas for some inspiration. All our stamp sets come presented on a protective approval card fully labelled and ready to use yourself or gift. Larger collections and bundles come in glassine or small brown envelopes. We pride ourselves in our quality and spend many hours sifting through stamps.

Each order is dispatched in a colourful, hand-decorated envelope adorned with more stamps which we hope you’ll love too! They practically come gift-wrapped!

Useful Information

We sell stamps in various conditions which you can select before checkout. Our blog; www.arcphilatelics.wordpress.com/start-collecting tells you more about these and has examples too. In summary this is what they mean:

Unhinged or Unmounted Mint or Mint Never Hinged (MNH) – These are in excellent condition, have no old hinge marks on the reverse of the stamp and have full gum/glue. They are fully valid for postage, where appropriate.

Hinged or Mounted Mint – These are also in excellent condition but will have the remains of a hinge on the reverse (a small piece of glassine paper which can be used to mount stamps). This is not noticeable from the front of the stamp. These stamps still have all their glue/gum and are also fully valid for postage, where appropriate. It is much more common for older stamps to be hinged.

Se-tenant - This means that the stamps, where appropriate, are joined together. Whereas most are issued individually on separate sheets, sometimes stamp sets are issued in strips of stamps joined together. Some are issued with some stamps of the set se-tenant in a block or strip and others in the set as individuals.

FDC or ‘First Day Cover’ – These are envelopes with stamps on which were sent out on the first day of issue of that stamp(s). Some are hand-written (HW) and some have typed (T) addresses. Some have standard postmarks (SP) and some have special hand stamps (SHS). You may not receive the exact one pictured but it will be in excellent condition in the type you select. If you want to see the exact one you'll get, send us a message.

CTO or Cancelled To Order – Countries often issue these direct to collectors. They are stamps still with the gum/glue on the reverse but have been cancelled or post marked. They have never been used on a letter but are not valid postage.

Used (Ex. FDC) – These are stamps which have been used and originated from a First Day Cover (FDC). They have excellent quality post marks. You may not receive the exact ones pictured but they will be very similar in quality. If you want to see the exact ones you'll get, send us a message.

Used – These are stamps which are used on general everyday mail making the postmarks more variable, but also more fun! All the used we sell are in excellent condition and contain no overly heavy postmarks/cancellations. These will vary from stamp to stamp and you may not receive the ones pictured, but we don't sell any under this category that we wouldn't have in our own collections. If you want to see the exact ones you'll get, send us a message.

Used (Poor) – These are used stamps which had a hard time going through the postal system. These are at a reduced price as they may have heavy cancellations, small tears, creases or perforations missing. But don’t worry, we’ll state it in the listing if this is the condition.

The SG number quoted on listings refers to the Stanley Gibbons' catalogue number. There are also other catalogues available such as Michel and Scott and these will have their own numbering system.

FAQs

It seems to be very hit and miss as to how long an order will take to reach the United States of America. Royal Mail state 5-7 days and while I know some orders have reached the recipient within this time I am also aware of items often taking 2 weeks and even up to 28 days. Please bear this in mind when you order. I always obtain Proof of Posting on overseas orders so that you have peace of mind that it has been dispatched. Other than that, I'm afraid it's in the hands of the mail companies (and potentially customs).
