Ax head is made from carboon steel and coated with black wax( burnt wax) Axe head is 6-1/2 inch tall and 3- 1/2 inch wide. Also good for camping or hiking. This axe is made from one piece of carboon steel and no welding was used to create this axe. The ax is probably the most characteristic weapon of the Vikings. When people think of Viking age weapons, they usually think first of the battle axe, and the image that forms in their mind is a massive weapon that only a troll could wield. In reality, battle axes in the Viking age were light, fast, and well balanced, and were good for speedy, deadly attacks, as well as for a variety of nasty, clever moves. Carrying an ax was as common to a Norseman as it was for anyone else in the world carrying a knife at the time. It was part of their culture and a quality ax was a often a symbol of status
