MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)
MDF is an engineered sheet goods product that is produced by combining wood fiber and a resin then heated and rolled under pressure into a uniform thickness. It has a very hard and smooth surface and provides an excellent painted finish.
MDF is used in high end furniture and cabinets. It is also used to produce many different types of trim and moldings, as well as architectural accessories such as mirror frames, clock surrounds, and other ornamental painted products. It should not be confused with particle board, which is a waste wood product that is produced by mixing sawdust with a resin then heating and pressing into thickness. MDF is much denser and stronger than particle board; it paints better and does not chip, crack or flake apart like particle board.
We use MDF in many of our projects, but we never use particle board.
