Item details

Not only a beautiful two-way maternity 1940s shirt dress, but also a great piece of social history! The 40s dress can be made with every day short sleeves, or longer slightly fuller sleeves, with a tie waist belt and optional ruffles. This dress, although classed as a 'maternity' dress, can easily be worn as a normal day dress. The pattern is printed with the CC41 guidance rules that were found on all UK patterns during the war era due to fabric rationing, and also includes the original packet that was posted to Mrs Weaver in 1945! A wonderful keepsake for those who collect 1940s paraphernalia, or want to make an authentic wartime dress.

• The Pattern Shop no 11909 – Un-used
• Comes with original postdated envelope to original envelope, dated 1945
• CC41 pattern - pattern paper is printed with the legal rationing compliance for dressmakers
• All patterns are checked and are complete with instructions and are packed in a clear plastic wrapper

Measurements of Pattern:

FAQs

We restore our vintage so that it can re-live its glory days however, like most things that are over a certain age, it can show wear from the fun it has had. We love the fact that vintage has its own back story! We will do our best to show any marks or faults in pictures and describe them fully, but please be understanding of their past lives, their age and condition. All our items are of a high wearable standard and quality, and we will state any imperfections, but please be aware that there may be a small mark that escapes our beady eyes on a very rare occasion.

We hand wash our items, where we can, before sale to freshen the fabric and remove any stains. We tend not to dry-clean items before sale due to some customers being allergic to the chemicals used, and the cost that would be passed on, but if an item really requires it we will, but we will steam any pieces that can not be handwashed. We will fix holes, broken zips, re-sew buttons and hems, anything that would ensure that the item is reaching you in its best condition. Occasionally we will leave any previous 'changes' to an item if we feel it adds character, but we will state this in the description.

We would advise you to follow washing guidelines and wash any purchases separately to begin with in case of colour transfer. For items such as jackets, coats, wool items or delicate fabrics we would advise using a dry cleaning service of your choice before use if you have sensitive skin. We only use non-bio sensitive washing detergents but advise washing the item before use if you have sensitive skin. If you have any questions regarding washing an item you have bought from us, please get in touch and we will do our best to advise you.

Vintage sizing is always smaller than modern sizing (thanks to the high street lying to us!) so please do not assume a vintage size 12 is the same as a modern one. Please pay close attention to measurements that are given, these are intended as a guide. For accurate measurement, measure yourself in underwear.......for bust; measure around the widest point of your bust with your normal bra on, for waist; measure the smallest part of your torso, for hips; measure around the widest part of your bottom. We do offer a 'modern' equivalent size as a guide only (using a high street size chart) but we advise you to use the more accurate inches given. Please get in touch if you require further measurements.

Our shipping is sent 2nd Class Signed-For/International Tracked & Signed so please provide an address where someone will be able to sign for the parcel, or be carded for pick-up. We can send to PO boxes but please be aware that it can cause issues with delivery when a signature is not obtained. We always send postage with adequate insurance to cover the items if lost. We can upgrade to Next Day Delivery or offer a specific postage rate for multi-purchases, at extra cost, please contact us for a quote. If postage of your item is less than estimated, we will refund you the difference minus £1.00. For international customers; you will be responsible for any customs charges & tax, and we will happily get a more accurate quote if you require.

Some garments are pinned to the mannequin for photography, but we try to accurately represent our items. We will crop our photos but use natural light and the occasional spot light if Britain is being a bit overcast (like half the year!) Occasionally we will lighten an image if the light is low, but we never play with the colour or fit using editing software.

I can ship both within the UK and Internationally, however I do not automatically send higher priced items out of the UK unless there is definite tracking within your country, and smaller accessories are not set to ship out of the UK due to the postage being high on the smaller priced items. If you like something that does not currently post to your destination, do please get in touch and I will see what I can do!

All of the vintage stock is stored hanging on rails, and stored in garment bags to prevent damage and dust. All of the clothes are kept in a separate room which Frank, our dog, is not allowed into to keep any fur transfer to an absolute minimum.
