Found in a charity shop in Scotland and brought home by me.
These kits are a great size to make a pillow or to cover a foot stool.
These kits are by Strathspey Gallery. I’m fairly certain this shop is closed now. It was located in Grantown-on-Spey in the Highlands of Scotland. The Spey is a great river that empties into the Moray Firth and has awesome salmon fishing.

Details of each kit:
This kit is open, and its contents are all present and in excellent condition. Lovely colors of red, black and white.
This kit is open, and its contents are in excellent condition. Not sure if the needles are present. I didn’t want to dig through the kit and take out the wool as it was nicely tucked inside the tube. Lovely colors of blue, green and black.
Still sealed in its original plastic tube packaging, although there are some cuts in the plastic. Lovely colors of black, red, blue and green…. Same colors as the MacDonald tartan but more red to it.

From the package:
“The use of tartan cloth in the Highlands of Scotland goes back five centuries. Tartan is a form of weaving in which similar strong repetitive pattern is used in the warp and weft. In conventional needlepoint each stitch is formed individually and there is neither a warp or a weft. By means of a creative combination of wools, background canvas, and stitch formation a method to overcome this difficulty has been developed. Like most good techniques, its very simplicity hides the effort which went into it.
The yarn used is twisted from pure wool worsted threads. It is resistant to wear and its slight unevenness give character to the finished needlepoint. Each kit is put together and packed by a cottage outstation in the Scottish Highlands.
In the early days the wool for tartan cloth was spun and dyed within the family by the yarn had to be taken to a weaver for making up into cloth on a loom. The pattern which the weaver was required to copy was defined with a pattern stick. Nearly all tartans use the same pattern along both sides so a single pattern stick defines the tartan. The pattern stick tacked to the bottom of this sheet can be removed for use in the traditional manner.
Tartan needlepoint can be worked in any shape to suit a cushion or a piece of furniture to be covered. The canvas provided with the kit is 17-3/4 by 19-1/2 inches. The maximum dimension which can be worked is about 16” by 18” and ample wool is supplied to cover that area.”
