I designed and produced this knife with ultralight backpackers in mind, but it could prove useful to anyone looking for a super lightweight blade. It is water-jetted from 1/16” thick 6Al-4V titanium alloy sheet. The result is a strong, sharp and functional knife which weighs practically nothing. In addition to weighing half as much as steel with very nearly the same strength, titanium is more flexible, non-magnetic, and will never rust, even if exposed to salt water. Titanium alloy is somewhat softer than steel, and therefore will not hold an edge as long as steel, but it is very easy to touch up with whatever sharpener you prefer. In order to increase the durability of the sharpened edge, I have given this knife a one-sided grind, welding a thin layer of tungsten carbide on the other side. As the softer titanium edge wears away, it exposes a sharp edge of tungsten carbide. I have been making and using these knives for the last five years, and am quite happy with the result. While mostly intended for food prep, these knives are suitable for all but the toughest jobs. Comes with ultralight sheath. The third photo shows the knife wrapped in dyneema cord with negligible increase in weight. I do not recommend using parachute cord as it will interfere with the sheath's effectiveness.
