Item details

One light green aspen leaf bead made of translucent polymer clay. Available in four sizes, drilled or undrilled. Approximately 1/16" thick and a bit thinner on the edges.

These beads are strong, somewhat flexible and very lightweight––perfect for earrings. They're especially pretty when the light shows through them. The leaves are a bit wavy and have a hand-buffed satin finish that mimics real leaves. There is more veining on the front than on the back. The edges of the leaves are darker.

The colors reflect the natural cycle of aspen leaves: spring green, summer green, yellow, gold and rust. Aspen leaves normally turn yellow and gold. It's less common to see orange or rust-colored leaves. As real leaves age, small black spots and insect holes appear and I've included those details.

Each leaf is handmade and unique. If you order two, I'll pick a pair that matches closely for earrings.

If you'd prefer to drill your own holes, to avoid cracking, it's generally suggested to use a hand drill and start with a very small bit and gradually use larger bits. I'd stay at least 1/8" away from the edges. If you'd rather I drill the bead(s) for you, please let me know where you'd like the hole(s) and what size. There's a comment box after you place your items in your cart. No extra charge for drilling.

I can also make custom leaf head pins with wire running through the length of the center vein for $1 more per bead. I recommend at least 22 gauge wire. I have sterling, sterling filled, stainless steel, brass, antique brass, gunmetal, antique copper and copper. Stainless steel is the strongest.

Additional policies

Please contact me with the custom order you have in mind. I’ll let you know if I can do it, how much it would cost and how long it would take. I’ll ask you for at least one approval of a proof before I finish the product so you know exactly what you’re getting before it’s shipped.

Following are some examples of custom orders from low cost to higher cost.

1.) A print only. No frame.

2.) A matted print. These can come with either stenciled or plain mats. You may need to buy custom framing.

3.) A different colored frame. If you want pink, for example, that’s easy. If you want a very specific color, I’ll ask you to snail mail me a color swatch. Chalk paint comes in limited colors, so if it’s within that spectrum, I should be able to match it.

4.) A different sized print* and/or frame.** I offer these standard-sized frames: 5X5, 5X7, 7X7 and 8X10. I could order these additional standard sizes: 4X6, 8X8, 9X12, 10X13, 11X14, 11X17, 12X12 or larger.

5.) A custom-sized print* and/or frame.**

6.) A custom illustration or stencil design. If you’re serious about an idea, whether its vague or specific, please ask.

* Prints can be enlarged up to 175% of the size of the original art. Much larger and they start to lose quality.
** Different sized frames require me to alter the stencil art and cut a new stencil.
