I have here a french style cross peen hammer with the head weighing in at 3.5 pounds. I forge these from brand new 1045 steel. I punch the eye and then drive a drift through from alternating sides while working the cheeks at the same time to give the eye a slight hour glass shape to help keep the handle tight. The peen is left with a gradual curve so it will move metal very well while at the same time minimizing the divots in your work. The hammer is forged to it's basic shape and then rough ground and hardened and tempered. I then polish the face and peen and install a hickory handle. The handle is lightly burned and then soaked in linseed oil. If you don't see what your looking for or have questions you can contact me (Zachary Royer) at 574-370-7211. I don't answer my phone on Sunday but if you leave me a message I'll get with you as soon as I can Monday.
