Item details

This lovely pottery creamer has been matched with quilting cotton fabric and accented by a blue antiqued flower trim.

~ The creamer is taupe with a mocha speckled glaze over it. It has a matte finish.
~ A colonial grayish blue fabric with light brown stars and pale blue dots is used for the pincushion.
~ The flower trim was the perfect accent. But first it needed to be dyed - it was too bright.
~ I used a coffee dye and dried it in the oven on a low temperature, which is how those darkened edges were achieved.
~ The bottom is stamped WALES
~This measures 3 1/4" tall, the bottom diameter is 2 1/4" wide, with the handle it is 3 1/8"

A word about this type of product.

Some call it a pincushion, others call it a pinkeep, or pin keep.

Most often it’s known as a Make Do. You may be wondering what on earth is a make do?

This term goes back many centuries. Back then people were thrifty. Everything had a purpose and was used. When things could no longer be utilized for their intended purpose they were upcycled into something new.

It wasn’t called that back then of course. Back then they made do with what they had.
A broken candle stick or lamp became a part of something new and useful. Back in the day most household things had a utilitarian purpose - decorations were not the priority.

Fast forward to the present day. Upcycling vintage goods to turn them into something new has been something I personally have enjoyed doing for as long as I can remember. I started a blog named upcycled-joy.com where many stories are shared.

May I suggest to use your imagination in how you use or display these items.
(This would be lovely in a little girls room. Placed on her dresser with her first strand of pearls flowing from the handle.)

Most of all a sincere thank you for supporting Handmade in the USA, please feel free to share on social media.

Have an amazing blessed day! Sheila
