Item details

This is a really beautiful Japanese silk kimono fabric (sample).

This fabric is from "Tomesode" (formal) kimono which is usually black based. These kimono are worn at wedding by married relatives. Hence, Tomesode are of very high quality and are highly sophisticated.

The base fabric colour is black. The fabric is smooth and is mat with nice silky sheen.

It is bird eye's view of a Japanese village of Edo period (1603-1868). At that time, Tokyo was called Edo and Shogun lived in the Edo castle, now Royal Palace.

This is a beautiful piece of panel. "Noshi" ribbons are floating. ”Noshi" is used when we give offerings to gods. Hence, "Noshi" is a lucky symbol and is widely used in kimono designs. Each ribbon acts as a small panel and is decorated with traditional designs and marks as samplers.

Some of the ribbons are edged with "kinkoma" embroidery (gold works).

This is a narrow strip of sheet. The width is half of my usual sheet. The size of the sheet is 18cm x 145cm. The height of the patterned area is about 70cm. The reminder is solid. Please note that this is not a full sized kimono.

The sheet is in very good used condition. There are two small faint stains shown in the photo no.10 above.
