Item details

This 16oz copper sheet is not copper foil such as you would find in craft stores, this copper weighs 1 lb per square foot and is typically used in roofing.
This is natural finish copper and if left unsealed it will age over time creating a rich patina. You can seal it if you prefer, we have used a variety of sealers and are happy to provide advice if needed.
We have sold this copper sheet for use as bar tops, kitchen countertops, backsplashes, tables, cabinet door inserts, panels, even as shower walls. It's gorgeous and the texture is rich and vibrant. We love this stuff!

This 16oz copper is about the thickness of a credit card and is the weight generally used in construction. We buy regular copper and then hand hammer it using either a ball-peen hammer for our Spanish style hammering, (one sheet takes one of our workers a full day and requires thousands of hammer strikes.) or a tinners hammer for our traditional hammer style.
We sell our copper in a wide variety of common sizes and also by the square foot. If you need a piece that is not in our listing just let us know, we do custom cuts for free.
To determine the square footage of your order simply multiply the length by the width and then divide that total by 144. The total is how many units you will need to purchase. When ordering multiple units just drop us a note to let us know the dimensions you need.

FAQ: People usually have some questions about using copper so we will try to answer them here.
Adhering the copper to a surface: most of the time the copper will be applied to wood or drywall. You can use contact cement, it works very well, however, there is no room for error, once the copper makes contact with the adhesive, it stays there. We recommend having some extra help and or a professional to help if you go that route. Alternatively you can use a PL construction adhesive, Loctite Powergrab or liquid nails. You will need to clamp or otherwise apply some pressure to the copper for the manufacturers recommended amount of time, but the upside is that you have some time from when you apply the copper to the surface to make any adjustments necessary.

Is the copper sealed? We apply a coat of finishing wax to the copper before shipping. The copper may change over time unless sealed with a permanent sealant. You can use a marine varnish or clear spray.

Cutting the copper: This is not foil and so can't be cut with scissors. You will need tin snips. These are available at hardware stores for under $20.
I'm remodelling my kitchen, when should I install my copper backsplash? The best time is BEFORE your cabinets go in. Why? You don't have to struggle to tuck the copper behind countertops and upper cabinets, and it's so much easier to put it behind a stove that's not there yet!

Can I bend the copper? Let's face it, most homeowners don't have a bending brake in their garage :) so, rudimentary but effective method to follow. Mark where you want to bend the copper on the back side. Place the copper on your work bench good side down with the marked line at the very edge of the work surface. Clamp a straight board the length of the sheet along that line. Using a rubber mallet begin hammering the copper upward, do not over hammer any area but rather, walk the mallet back and forth along the copper sheet getting a little more bend with each pass until the copper is at a right angle.

I need a sheet of copper that is longer than 10', can you help? Yes. We buy our copper on rolls which means we can make you a sheet as long as you need it. Just drop us a note and we will quote it.

I need several sheets, can I get a discount? Yes! Three or more full sheets please contact us for a personal listing which will reflect your discount.

You ship the copper in a box? Why not flat? We do ship the copper loosely rolled in a box. The reason is that shipping large sheets flat means we have to use a skid and/or crate and ship via freight carrier, this can be quite expensive and we would not be able to offer free shipping. If you want the copper shipped flat just let us know and we will get a freight quote together for you. Be sure to include your zip and tell us whether it will going to a business or residence, if there is a dock or forklift available and whether you want it delivered inside as these are extra fee services.

Can you bend the copper for us? Absolutely! We are a full service sheetmetal shop.

Domestic ground shipping is free, International orders will need to be quoted.

FAQs

As we do all the hammering, finishing and whatnot ourselves we are able to offer a full service experience to our clients.

While our sheets have set sizes listed, that is simply because those are the most commonly ordered sizes of our copper sheet. We can cut your copper to any dimensions free of charge.

Well, we don't exactly gift wrap our stuff, but, we do package it very well. Tiles are bubble wrapped individually, copper sheets have a protective wrap before they are loosely rolled and put into a sturdy box for shipping.

Orders 30 square feet and over may be eligible for a discount.
