The “Wall Flower” English Paper Piecing pattern is inspired by a vintage wallpaper design. With only three shapes that make up the motif, it’s a great project for confident beginners or intermediate stitchers. More seasoned stitchers may want the additional challenge of creating intricate “fussy cut” designs. The geometric design lends itself well to fabrics that include basic prints, fussy cut motifs, and prints that can create continuous designs across multiple shapes. The templates included with this pattern can be enlarged or reduced to suit the particular fabric you’ve chosen, so customize to your heart’s content!
Coloring and Design Pages
I have included a coloring page for you to use to try out different color combinations before you start cutting (or even buying) your fabric. Use your favorite coloring tools to fill in the shapes. Print as many as you need to find the look you want. At the end of this document, I have also included alternate designs that can be created using the same shapes and layout. Feel free to try those out as well.
The instructions include full-color images of each step (see images 2, 3, and 4 for some example images).
- At least 1/4 yard of fabric in at least 3 colors/shades (for a finished piece containing 38 blocks measuring about 18” x 20” when finished). More fabric may be needed if you increase the size of the paper pieces or fussy cut specific designs. - Rotary cutter and mat - Thin cardboard to make a fussy-cutting template - Templates printed on heavy paper or cardstock - Paper scissors - Fabric scissors - Thread (matching thread for sewing and contrasting thread for basting) - Hand-sewing needles - Clips
