Item details

Posted directly from the USA, this is a vibrantly colored garnet. This is an AA Grade Almandine Garnet from Mozambique, Africa. The African country of Mozambique produces fine quality Garnet gemstones. Mozambique Garnet is usually Almandine*, but may also be Pyrope**.

* Almandine is the most common Garnet, it is usually opaque and not fit for gemstone use. Only the less common transparent dark red forms of Almandine are used as gemstones.

** Pyrope is especially noted for its transparency and frequent lack of flaws or inclusions. A rose-red to a violet variety of Pyrope (or intermediary between Almandine and Pyrope) is known as Rhodolite and is a very well represented in the gem trade.

Garnets are January's birthstone and symbolize peace, prosperity and good health. It is said that they have the power to give it's wearer eternal happiness, health, and wealth. In Greek mythology, Hades gifted a pomegranate to Persephone before she left his domain that way it would ensure a speedy and safe return. Upon her return, the fruit transformed into a handful of the red gemstones.

PROPER CARE: Clean garnet stones with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Rinse the stone well after washing it. Ultrasonic treatments may be used for most garnets, except the demantoid variety. Steam cleaning garnets may cause color changes from the heat.

All Sterling silver findings will tarnish( darken) in time. This is natural and not a cause for alarm. Most jewelry stores carry polishing clothes for silver jewelry, that will take care of this.

Additional Notes: If at anytime you resell gemstone jewelry obtained from us or any gems for that matter, it is your responsibility to provide all pertinent information of the treatment of a gemstone. Example, if a stone is Manmade/Lab Created, it is the seller's responsibility to disclose that fact. This information is required by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

When present, failure to identify treatment of natural gemstones, is considered an unfair trade practice. As such, this information is required at each and all levels of jewelry commerce. Failure to inform buyers could subject violators to civil, as well as administrative remedies. Anyone who is unclear about these requirements may write to the AGTA for clarification.

* The Painted Turtle, the amazing charity the singer/actor Meat Loaf has taken to his heart. It is an innovative year-round camp with a simple, yet challenging and inspiring vision; to provide a life-changing environment which enables seriously ill children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses to reach beyond their own and others’ expectations. Their work is truly extraordinary, as are the achievements of the children who attend. All profits from the sales of these items go to this very special organization, which promises that no child will ever have to pay to have this opportunity.

Help us to help empower children, who daily face problems most of us will fortunately never experience, to break out of the confining shell of their illnesses, and learn to laugh, and have fun.

You must take care of any beadwork. You should NOT get it wet, this will weaken the threads and may result in color changes of the beads. Soaps, detergents, chlorine, oils, etc. will cause this. You should not store your beadwork in direct sunlight, as this can cause bead colors to fade.

All Sterling silver beads and findings will tarnish( darken), and all copper beads and findings will get a patina (green coloring) in time. This change in color is natural and not a cause for alarm. Most jewelry stores carry polishing clothes for copper and silver jewelry, that will take care of this
