I hand cut this remarkable freeform shaped focal bead which measures 51x31mm and is 19mm thick with polished sides and back and a 2mm side drill hole. Black druzy quartz of this quality is very desirable and VERY hard to come by! Druzy (also spelled drusy or druse) means a coating of small crystals on a rock surface, often a cavity or a vug in a geode. Not all druzy is quartz, but this definitely is.
When I was in Tucson in February I found one major dealer of Brazilian minerals who had ONE table with grey druzy quartz specimens on it and of all those specimens only 5 were BLACK and I bought the 4 best and biggest of those 5. It was my best score of the show. In having gone to Tucson or Quartzite over 10 times in the past 20 years and countless rock and gem shows regionally, I can tell you that this is special stuff! I asked the dealer if it was irradiated to make it black and they assured me that it was naturally black. They called it "black amethyst" and if one looks under bright enough light at a certain angle, there is a detectable purple hue. Most of the cabs I cut out of this have no matrix on the back. If there is matrix on the back, it's a simple, ugly grey aggregate and I'm unsure of what it is officially composed.

For those interested in the metaphysical properties of stones, this would have the same properties as quartz and as amethyst. You can look that info up on the internet.
As a general rule domestic shipping is by USPS 1st Class Mail, and I charge $3 to ship in a small jewelry box inside a padded bubble envelope. For fragile, really expensive, or multiple items that still come in under a pound in a small flat rate priority box to keep the shipping price at $6 for most items within the United States. Larger and heavier items, unless otherwise specified, will ship in the larger flat rate Priority boxes for $15. PLEASE NOTE: We try to ship every business day, so your purchase should be handled within 24 hours of receipt of your order. I also am happy to ship international. For MOST INTERNATIONAL ORDERS I can generally ship multiple pieces by USPS Air Mail for a flat rate of $10.00.
My preferred method of payment is PayPal. Just click on the easy to use PayPal link on the ad for the item you purchase or win. If you are buying more than one item or are bidding on auctions, I'm happy to combine purchases for one flat shipping cost. Just e-mail me and ask for a combined invoice.
