Item details

Marigolds are a cheerful favorite in my summer garden, and I just love that they create a cheerful gold yarn as well! This superwash sock yarn is small batch, hand dyed by me with an extraction of marigold blossoms from my own garden.

{ D E T A I L S }
- Yarn: 75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon
- Color: Marigold Yellow Lot 10
- Weight: Fingering/Sock (4-ply)
- Amount: Approx 100gm/462 yd (enough for a large pair of socks)
- Gauge: 7-8 sts=1" on #1 - 3 needles, 21-32 sc=4" on B-E hooks
- Care: Hand Wash Gentle/Dry Flat **The yarn is listed as machine washable, but I always recommend washing by hand for best results!**
-I lovingly hand dyed this yarn in a smoke free, pet friendly home.

Because of the variabilities of working with nature to grow flowers and then hand dyeing the yarn, each skein is a soft, squishy, work of art. Your skein will be similar, but maybe not exactly like the one in the picture. Each skein has short repeats of color followed by the natural cream color of the wool. This creates a lovely variegated pattern in your knitted product.

Make sure to look around the shop - there are also mini skeins and color sets available! Questions about naturally dyed yarn? See the FAQ below!

FAQs

Most of my items are knit from high quality wool, alpaca, cotton, or wool blends. I recommend hand washing in cool water and air drying unless otherwise specified with the item.

The colors in our skeins of Garden Yarn are a permanent part of the protein structure of the wool – so no washing out! We do recommend washing in cool water with a gentle, pH neutral soap (we like Eucalan or Unicorn Fiber Rinse!). After the first wash you may see a little color in the rinse water, but rest assured that it will not significantly affect the color of the yarn. Just like any fabric or yarn, colors may fade slightly over time, more if frequently exposed to bright sunlight. We recommend storing your creations in a dark, temperature-controlled place when not wearing or using.

Hopefully yes! This depends on feedback I receive from you, so if you would like to see other weights or styles of yarn get the Garden Yarn treatment, send me a convo and let me know!

All of our dye plants are either organically grown in my own garden or locally sourced from the surrounding 5 miles or so. All dyes materials are harvested sustainably.

We use time-honored processes to provide the best color to your yarn. These include the use of alum in small amounts, an aluminum based mordant (allowing the color to bind with the yarn protein). Alum is a non-toxic additive that can be found in many places (including the grocery spice aisle as a crunch enhancer for pickles!), but if you have a sensitivity to aluminum you may wish to select a color that does not use an alum base (please contact Kendra@knitty.vet for more information).
