Item details

This worsted weight yarn is a lovely blend of jacob wool and mohair. The mohair comes from our own angora goats and the jacob wool is from our own jacob sheep.

This yarn is 70% jacob wool and 30% mohair. The mohair will add shine, strength and wearability to the final fabric and give the garment a lovely halo over time.

The base yarn is a soft grey, created by the blending of black and white wool with grey and cream mohair. When it is overdyed, the individual colors in the fibers take up the dye differently, giving a nice heathered effect that can be almost irridescent in bright light. We had a wonderful time experimenting in the dye kitchen with this blend.

This listing is for a kettle-dyed yarn in a bright purple with the heathered grey from the black undyed fibers in the yarn.

Jacob sheep are a very hardy heritage sheep breed. They are smaller than some sheep and are striking in their black and white coloring. They are known for their four horns, which is a striking look, but also come in a two horned variation. We have both two and four horned jacobs and love them all. Angora goats have had my heart for many years. Their mohair is soft and wavy/curly and adds wonderful character to yarn. I am currently spinning and knitting a sweater in a jacob/mohair blend and I just love it!

These skeins are 4.0 ounces each and approximately 250 yards. This is a two ply yarn, created for us by the wonderful folks at Green Mountain Spinnery in Vermont, using historic New England carding and spinning equipment.
