This a wonderful piece from my new Sgraffito Collection. The technique of sgraffito is a way to decorate an enameled bead by scratching through the surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color. It is often used in ceramics as well. This is a larger focal size (2")and was hand cut from copper sheet into a round disc shape - I kept the edges imperfect, sort of rolling, to soften the look. It was dapped to give a slightly concave cupped shape - not too deep so it will lay nicely as a pendant. The underlying layer is white and the top layer in vitreous enamel is a robins egg blue. I scratched through the blue to spell out the words 'Blessings Abound' - one of my favorite sayings - and added a spiral shape in the middle. These are meant to look a bit rustic and imperfect. The back has a layer of resin that protects the copper and acts as a sort of counter enamel.
This measures about 50mm round. It has 1 hole for stringing that measures about 2mm.
All of my glass beads, resin creations, wood art and bronze clay pieces are handmade by me in my home studio in Tucson, Arizona. I work in both borosilicate (hard glass) and soda lime glass (soft glass). All of my beads are annealed in a digitally controlled kiln and the bead holes cleaned.
I ship in a nice sturdy 2"x3"x6" cardboard box so you can be sure your goodies will arrive safe and sound and in one piece!
