D2 tool steel, is a stain resisting, air hardening alloy that is known to hold edges that are keen and spines that are ductile when heat treated and tempered properly. Containing enough chromium that it is on the cusp of the stainless-steel family, this steel performs like high carbon steel without requiring the attention to maintenance required by simple high carbon steels. D2 is also highly resistant to abrasion wear and cracking under work-strain.
