Item details

Handspun from the un dyed wool of Jacobs sheep. We prepare all our wool by hand starting with the raw fleece. If you have never tried hand spun before you are in for a treat! B y hand spinning and hand preparing the wool, the fibres are not stripped and chemically treated like a machine processed yarn would be, this often leads to a softer yarn with a little bit of stretch in the wool due to the natural crimp of the fibre. By removing harsh chemicals from processing some of the wonderful lanolin that gives wool so many of its special properties is left in, helping your woolly hat with waterproofing and antimicrobial properties. I can also personally guarantee there are no knots in this hand spun yarn.

This Jacobs Wool was purchased for a fair price from a local farm, hand washed without harsh chemicals using traditional methods, combed, carded and hand pulled before being spun into a light weight singles, with randomly changing natural Jacobs fleece colours. The singles have then been plied to produce a lovely soft natural marl double knitting yarn. This wool is perfect for hats, mittens and other everyday soft snuggly warm garments, perfect for the great outdoors. Jacobs also felts well for knit and felt projects such as slippers or mittens just make sure to use a larger needle size than recommended for complete felting or smaller for fulling. Each ball comes out slightly different and may have more or less elements of dark and light Jacobs, this creates a wonderful effect when knitted.

Jacobs are distinctive looking sheep with their multicoloured fleeces and ornamental horns.

Now Available in ready wound 50g balls! So no need to spend time winding skeins into balls before you can use them!

Add your required number of balls of wool to the cart, or if I don't have enough in stock just drop me a message and I will be more than happy to help with the amount you require, the price is per 50g ball
