Item details

This red alpaca / border leicester / corriedale wool yarn is a collaboration of two shepherdesses......myself and my friend, Caren Sych, from St. Louis, Michigan.

Stonehedge Fiber Mill in East Jordan processed and spun the yarn for us. We are very proud of this Michigan mill because they made the yarn for the athletes' sweaters in the Olympics closing ceremony. That's awesome for a small, family run mill tucked away in the woods of Michigan.

About the yarn, it's a lovely, soft, strong 3 ply, with plenty of elasticity - perfect for sock knitting. I would also recommend using it for hats, scarves, mittens, shawls, and warp for weaving.

Besides being a super yarn for knitting, crochet, and weaving, this yarn felts beautifully to a lovely, soft fabric.

The last picture shows this yarn simmering in my dye pot. I used Jacquard's Fire Red professional dye.

250 yards / 228 meters - 2.8 ounces / 82 grams - Fingering Weight at 18 wraps per inch
