Vintage Cast Iron 7 Ear Corn Mold Cornbread Griddle Skillet Pan - Unbranded
Made of heavy cast iron, this 7 ear Cornbread mold pan has been well used. Each ear does have some burnt on grease residue and some light oxidation from storage in a damp place. (I found it in a barn.) It is unbranded but probably was made here locally in one of the old foundries here in Maine.
To thoroughly clean it, I learned a trick year's ago from an older woman who LOVED her cast iron - spray the cast iron pan with Easy-Off Oven Cleaner. Place it in a plastic bag, close tight and let sit for a few hours. It will eat off any of the old burnt on residue gunk. Wash thoroughly and then re-cure with bacon grease (best) or vegetable oil. Coat with a light film and bake in the oven at about 400 degrees for about 30 minutes, shut off the oven and let it sit and cool inside the oven. The cast iron pores will open up in the heat and the bacon grease will fill in the pores, leaving a smooth cooking surface. Spray with vegetable cooking spray and the corns will easily fall out of the mold.
Measures 12 1/2" long X 5 7/8" wide X about 3/4" deep overall.
