Zinnias are by far my favorite flower. They make stunning bouquets that last for weeks. What we have to offer is a packet of mixed colors. You will receive a wide assortment of colors - white, yellow, orange, pink, purple, almost red, and all colors in between. There will be fluffy looking ones, and some that look daisy-like.
They make a beautiful addition to the vegetable garden, attracting bees and butterflies. They pair well with our Mexican Sunflowers.
Plant Specifics: Sun: Full Sun Height: 24-30 inches Spread: 8-10 inches Ornamental Use: Beds, Borders, Cut Flowers, Vegetable Garden Life Cycle: Annual Sow Method: Direct Sow/Indoor Sow Bloom Duration: 10 weeks Flower Color: Orange, Pink, Red, White, Purple, Speckled
Zinnias can be grown from seed sown early indoors and transplanted outside after frost, or sown directly in the garden after frost.
Sowing Seed Indoors: Sow indoors 5-7 weeks before outdoor planting date in spring. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in potting soil. Keep the soil moist at 70-75 degrees F Seedlings emerge in 7-10 days As soon as seedlings emerge, provide plenty of light on a sunny windowsill. Thin to one seedling per cell when they have two sets of leaves. Harden off seedlings outside by placing then in a sheltered place for about a week before planting. Protect them from wind and hot sun - if frost threatens at night, cover them or bring them inside, then move them back out in the morning. Transplant hardened-off seedlings to the garden after the frost.
Sowing Directly in the Garden: Direct sow in full sun in average, well-drained soil after danger of frost. Prepare the soil by removing weeds and working organic matter into the top 6-8 inches of soil; then level and smooth. Sow seeds 8 inches apart and cover with 1 inch of fine soil. Firm lightly and keep evenly moist. Seedlings will emerge in 7-14 days depending on soil and weather conditions. Thin to stand about 18 inches apart starting when seedlings are 1 inch high.
