This sample card contains two dots of handmade, professional grade watercolor. All pigments receive a permanent lightfastness rating (8, on a scale of 1 to 8) and are non-toxic.

The pigments of the Prussian Palette included on this sample card are:

-Prussian Blue
-Colonial Raw Sienna

Each card is made of durable cardstock to withstand wetting each dot of dried watercolor paint. If you've been wanting to give Hushwing watercolors a try without the commitment of purchasing a palette, this sample card is for you!

The Prussian Palette is made up of two complimentary pigments which mix to create a stunning variety of colors: Prussian Blue and Colonial Raw Sienna. This versatile palette is designed to be used alone as a simple, two pigment collection or as an addition to a larger palette of paints.

Prussian Blue has been a favorite of artists for centuries, including Picasso, Watteau, and Hokusai. It is often considered the first modern pigment after it’s discovery in 1705. Dye-maker Jacob Diesbach was in pursuit of creating a cochineal red pigment when a chance chemical reaction occurred, creating Prussian Blue. Over time this brilliant blue has been used for more than just a pigment. Prussian Blue was essential to creating the first architectural blueprints and is also used in contemporary medicine as an antidote for heavy metal poisoning.

The Prussian Palette pairs this vivid, modern pigment with Colonial Raw Sienna, a natural earth pigment from Hushwing’s Colonial Palette. This natural earth pigment originates in the United States and contains more opacity than natural earth pigments from Europe. Colonial pigments are preferred by artists for their powerful tinting strength.

During production, pigment is mulled by hand on a glass slab with a combination of gum arabic, honey, and food grade preservative. Each pigment has it’s own unique recipe that has been tested over time to ensure the perfect balance of pigment to binder.
