'Yellow to Blue Gradient' Naturally Dyed mini skein set. 70g.
Marvel at the magnificence of these fresh natural colours! Ranging from a watery deep blue to the prettiest pastel yellow, these perfectly co-ordinating rainbow pastels will look great in a pair of stripy socks or gloves, either on their own or paired with a neutral). They can also be used for fair-isle, intarsia, crochet, weaving or whatever else takes your fancy!
The set contains 7 x 10g mini skeins of 4ply/Sock weight yarn. Each skein has 42m of yarn, totalling 294m (enough for a medium pair of socks or hat!). Composition is 90% wool/10% polyamide for wash and wearability. This yarn has a tight twist to it, which provides great stitch definition.
The colourways used in this set are:
30 - Indigo Fustic Sea Blue 31 - Indigo Elderberry Green 32 - Indigo Turmeric Light Green 36 - Indigo (F. Green) Pastel 38 - Safflower/Indigo Chartreuse 44 - Safflower Light Yellow 43 - Turmeric Pastel Yellow
All colours can be ordered separately, either in 10g mini skeins on the same 4ply/sock base, or in 50g or 100g quantities on the yarn base of your choice (eg: lace, DK, Aran, Chunky). Please message me for a quote and further details, it's really no trouble at all!
About Natural Dyes / Care Instructions:
All colours have been 'mordanted' (ie fixed) with mineral extracts, to ensure the maximum light and wash fastness available from each extract. Despite this, naturally dyes fibres may fade, darken or change slightly over the course of their lifetime. This is part of the character (some would say part of the charm) of organic matter products, and these fractional changes over a long period of time should not discourage you from using environmentally friendly yarns.
You may also find that some excess colour particles come loose during the first few washes. As I hand grind the dyestuffs, the particles vary in size and some flakes may stick to the yarn through the final rinses. This is not a dye fastness issue, but you may wish to gently rinse and dry darker colours before knitting with them.
Your finished item should be gently hand washed in warm water using a mild detergent (I like ecover or no rinse wool products such as eucalan), before being laid flat to dry. I would not recommend harsh machine washing for natural dyes.
All yarns in this pack have been dyed in small batches using age-old techniques with natural products, many of which I have foraged locally from flower, vegetable and tree matter. Only one 'animal' dye is used by us; Cochineal pink, which comes from South American insects, but I have included it in the range because of the vibrancy of the colours that can be achieved with it.
All colours are available to buy on their own, either as 10g mini skeins on the same 4ply/sock base, or in 50g or 100g quantities on the yarn base of your choice (eg: lace, DK, Aran, Chunky).
