My husband is from Ghana West Africa and we recently returned from a trip to see family in Ghana. We purchased all our new fabrics from small street vendors. We prefer to buy our fabrics this way as it helps support small business owners.
True Hand Dyed Batik from Ghana Africa. Being a real hand dyed piece don't be surprised to find little flecks of wax still clinging to the fabric.

African Batik’s & Wax Prints --Wax Painted Fabrics from Africa

Batik (Wax Painting) is a technique that has been practiced in many parts of the world for centuries. The basic method is the resist dye technique.
Melted wax is applied to the fabric to form a pattern. The fabric is then dyed either by hand or in a dye bath.
This same process is repeated over and over applying wax and dying until the final pattern or picture is complete.
Eventually the fabric is placed between sheets of paper and ironed to remove the wax.
