Item details

What is it?
This is custom roving made from a blend of sweet soft Rambouillet wool, dreamy light grey Cashmere and sparkly "Firestar"! The wool comes from "Baaba" a sweet bottle fed Rambouillet wether I could not part with. Blended with the wool is my home grown Cashmere fiber from our five cashmere goats for softness and Firestar for Bling!

What is Roving?
Roving is wool or fiber that has been run through a carding machine. The fibers in roving are not all going in the same direction. When you spin this preparation of fiber you'll get a fuzzy texture. I had one more process called "Pindrafting" done to this roving to slightly align the fibers to increase its strength and durability when spun and to make spinning faster and easier. This roving is also a great fiber for felting, as the fibers are not all in alignment and can grab onto each other easily during the felting process.

What kind of yarn will it make?
This blend is fine wool that is soft and yet strong and durable and a soft short cashmere fiber with Firestar that will add sparkle and strength to your yarn. It is 50% wool and 40% cashmere and 10% Firestar. Spun with a woolen draw, your yarn will have loft and a light halo with a soft drape. This specific blend was created for spinning soft yarn for my current shawl knitting phase. I also plan to use it for weaving on both my rigid heddle loom and my pin looms. It would also make socks you will never want to take off or anything else your heart desires including wet felting and needle felting.

How does this Roving take dye?
This fiber will take dye well. The wool and cashmere will be more matte, but the Firestar will be bright and vibrant. It will felt so handle it with care.

Just for Curiosity:
Baaba is now a grown up 3 year old and still so sweet. He's a little harder to cuddle now that he's over 200lbs. Currently he's in town doing "yardwork" with two of his friends.

The cashmere goats.....well...they started bullying Baaba and me so they were sent packing. We don't put up with bullying.

Average review
This is a well processed, lovely yarn. I love knowing the origins of the animals who contributed and donated the warmth of their fiber. The shipping was lightening fast. Thank you so much.
