Flax is a plant fiber that is also known as linen.
This roving is made of shorter (cut) lengths of flax -- perfect for spinning, as an inclusion in wet felting and for needle felting.
When using flax for wet-felting, it has to be incorporated with wool, as it does not felt on its own. Use it as the top layer to ad textural interest - the roving feels rough, but once felted it becomes soft and the because the flax doesn’t shrink itself, it turns into lovely wavy lines. It has a beautiful mat gloss.
You can spin it on it’s own both dry or wet (traditional flax spinning requires a distaff, which these shorter fibers don’t need). Mix the flax with other fibers to create art batts for spinning. Just imagine the possibilities.
For needle felting, flax fibre produces a very hard needle felted object -- it becomes very hard very fast! Be careful as it firms up, because it becomes so hard that it can easily snap your needle. This is a great option for using vegan fibers. Use the individual fibers to make a ‘hairy’ surface on your creations. Check out DHG’s youtube video on needle felting with Vegan fibers.
When dyeing use dyes made for cellulose fibers.
Produced and dyed by DHG in Italy. _______________________________________________________

I do very limited custom orders; I will place a spot for a custom doll in my shop when I am able to work on them. Please check my blog for an announcement.
Pricing of all Olive Sparrow Goods is based on sustainability for both the artist and the receiver of the item. Quality work is my prime objective, not volume of merchandise. I can imagine nothing more beautiful than a child building a bond with an Olive Sparrow Child that will last through hours and hours of play and will still engage that little human child as an adult. This kind of workman ship takes a lot of time and fine, detailed work, and being produced in Canada must be able to sustain an artists’ life here.
Guarantee: Your Olive Sparrow Child is guaranteed against defects in the workmanship and materials for 1 year. Please contact the Olive Sparrow at email@example.com should you have any concerns.
We also offer doll doctor services, please contact me for information.
Olive Sparrow Child Care instructions: Your child will want to take his/her doll along on many adventures and you might be fearful that it will loose its clean appearance. This does happen, however it is also an adult concern, not one of the child. If you see it necessary, try to do a spot removal before giving it a whole bath. Long hair should be braided before washing, to keep it from matting. When you submerge the doll into water, it will take many days to dry. Please mention that to your child, as they might miss their friend.
It is always preferable to spot clean only with a damp towel, with none or very little mild low-suds soap, DO NOT RUB. In a true emergency, partial immersion in mildly soapy, cool water should help, no agitation, and lie flat and face-up on a towel to dry.
To renew the dolls face add new blush from time to time. (Each doll is shipped with a bit of blush on a piece of linen). To make your own doll-blush, take a scrap of cloth and rub it with a red, pink and brownish crayon and then rub the cloth on the cheeks. It will look a little dark at first, but after a day or two it will soften.
