This Ash tree design was inspired by the Campaign to Protect Rural England, which is presently campaigning to save the ash tree. (See: http://www.cpre.org.uk/what-we-do/countryside/hedgerows/update/item/3106-the-battle-to-save-englands-ash-trees).
I shall donate income from sales of this book to support the CPRE campaign.
The Ash is the second most common hedgerow tree in Britain and its survival is crucial to the character of the countryside - but, tragically, ash trees are threatened by the spread of 'ash dieback' disease.
The Ash also had a profound symbolic meaning in Celtic culture, where it was known as the World Tree or Tree of Life. In my cover design I have included a Celtic knot, and the Celtic name for the Ash - 'Nuinn' - in Runic script.
In this version of the journal I have dyed the cover with a wash of 'Spanish Brown'. It is also available in Apple Green. I can make the journal in other colours to order.
Size: to fit A5 (21x15cm - approx 8x6 inches)
The slip cover is made of vintage buffalo hide and is supplied with a separate replaceable insert book. The book is a standard A5 size, so you can re-use the cover with a refill book - you could also use it with a standard A5 printed diary. You can choose from the following options:
1) unlined handmade cotton paper (50 pages/100 sides) 2) lined milled paper (100 pages/200 sides) 3) unlined cartridge drawing paper (50 pages/100 sides)
Weight: 450 grams (approximately 1lb)
Quality: - Paper is 100% genuine heavyweight cartridge paper or handmade cotton paper
The paper has been selected for sketching and drawing in a variety of media. If you wish to write with a fountain pen I would recommend you choose cartridge paper.
Refills of the original insert books are also available.
I love working with leather, but for ethical reasons I only use vintage leather for my books- ie leather from working animals that have come to the end of their lives.
Beautiful--was agift for a friend and she loved it!

Parfait. Conforme à la description. Le cuir est par contre très fragile. Déjà quelques fissures au bout de quelques jours.
