Vintage Set Chinese Paper Cuts, Bird Paper Cuts, Chinese Folk Paper Cuts, Yang Chow China-Chinese Scherenschnitten, Set of 4, Bird Papercuts
In 1987, I spent 3 weeks touring China with a group of American teachers and doctors on a cultural exchange. We primarily visited schools and hospitals, as well as many of the major historical and cultural sites. It was one of those big moments in my life. On that trip I purchased an array of Chinese arts and handicrafts, many of which--like the rug by my bedside--I am still using.
These 4 colorful paper cuts come from that trip. I found them in a stack in the back of a drawer, unused and in mint condition, still in their original folder. The Chinese still today tape up paper cuts inside their windows and on the outside of their doors to commemorate holidays, anniversaries, weddings, and auspicious days in general. These would be lovely taped to a window, but I"m sure they have many others uses as well. My daughter went through a stage where she copper-foiled Chinese paper cuts between 2 pieces of glass and hung them in the window. Use your imagination!
These 4 paper cuts measure more or less 6 1/2 inches by 5 inches. They are delicate and beautiful.
