I have here a nice little rounding hammer with the head weighing at 26 ounces. I forge these from new 1045 steel. I punch the eye first then start driving a drift through from each side alternately and forging the cheeks at the same time. This creates a slightly hour glass shaped eye to help hold the handle nice and tight. I do the rough forging and grinding and then harden and temper it. I then finish sanding and polishing the faces so that they are nice and smooth and won't leave extra marks on your work. The handle is hickory that I shape to fit the hand nice, then lightly, burn it, and soak it in linseed oil. It is held in with two wooden wedges and a steel wedge that is then soaked with glue. If you have any questions you can contact me (Zachary Royer) at 574-370-7211. I don't answer the phone on Sunday but if you leave me a message I'll get back with you Monday morning.
The hammer I received is exceptional made. Great detail and exceptional craftsmanship. Right away feels at home in your hand. Can’t wait to use it. Thank you
