this hand forged axe features a symmetrically wrapped and welded eye with an inserted tool steel edge. The edge is hardened and tempered. The technique of forming the eye by wrapping the material around a mandrel and then welding the pieces together at high heat between hammer and anvil has been practiced by blacksmiths for thousands of years. This axe head is suggestive of early viking axes. Hung on a commercially made hickory handle.
