This is an usual, collectible bead from the Turkoman tribe of Turkmenistan.
This is an old bead. My research leads me to believe that it is most likely from the early part of the 20th century and possibly even the late 19th century. Beads of this type would have been worn by a bride at her wedding and during the early years of her marriage. These were nomadic people and much of a woman's dowry would have consisted of her jewelry which was easily portable.
Please do not expect perfection. Remember this is an old bead and was made with primitive tools under primitive conditions. It has stood up under years of wear and nomadic travel. Items of this sort will carry scars from being worn and one should expect to find dents, scratches and certainly a patina which is consistent with an item of this age. This has a dull finish and a somewhat primitive style. I did not polished it but it could be shined up some with a mild jewelry polish if you wish. It is fabricated from a white metal of unknown alloy, most likely a combination of brass, nickel, maybe some melted down coins and some silver. Please note that one of the dangles is missing a ball charm.
The length of the bead, not including the dangles is 3"

Many of the things you will find in my shop are vintage, ethnic items. Please keep in mind that these are often made by primitive people under primitive circumstances and are rarely what we would consider to be perfect. There may be mismatched jewels, a definite patina and often there are irregularities in the metal. This is common and should be expected with this type of jewelry. I leave the patina in place for those who prefer an aged appearance. Most items can be polished with a mild jewelry cleaner if that is your preference.
