This early folk art toolbox came from Pennsylvania. It was made sometime between the 1860s to 1880s. It looks to be of the civil war era 1860s. The tool box has a wonderful folk art look and great decorative presence. It was made with care and has unique detailing on the sides, and a breadboard top. It is made with square nails {may be hand forged} and has the original old red paint under an old coat of black.
The toolbox has brass fittings and a nameplate on top which is not engraved. It has a brass hasp for a lock. Overall it is in good antique condition. It has been used and shows signs of age and normal use by a carpenter. Their is a piece missing on the top of one side. Their is some normal wear to the painted finish. I have included many photos, so you can accurately access the overall condition. It does need to be cleaned. It came out of the barn. I was unsure of how to clean this while preserving the old paint so will leave the cleaning to someone with a more experienced hand. The toolbox is heavy for its size.
Measurements are about 23 inches long by 12 inches deep by 12 inches tall. Add this neat early tool box to your country, farmhouse or primitive home decor today.
