Vintage Knitting Pattern for 3 Girls Cardigans in Chunky Yarn
This pattern was found in my archives, inherited from my husband's mother. She knitted this design for her grandchildren in the 50's, when girls would wear white canvas shoes (cleaned with shoe whitening) and matching cotton socks!!
The pattern is straightforward and quickly made, in a thick yarn using big needles. The work begins at the lower hems and then sleeves and body are joined and continued upward to the neck, reducing seams to sleeve and side seams only. • The original pattern has become creased and yellowed with age and some characters are smudged, so I have reformatted the text but retained the original knitting abbreviations. • All measurements are in inches and you may wish to obtain an inch ruler or tape measure in order to be accurate. • An ounce of wool weighs approximately 25g, 1 yard = 36 inches. • Ths design requires UK knitting needles Nos. 2 and 6 (US 10 ½ and 8, metric 2.5 mm and 4 mm.) • I recommend that the tension square is washed and spread out to dry before measuring, to ensure that the garment will still fit after its first washing!
This item is a knitting pattern only - you will not receive a completed cardigan.
