* Although there are 3 available, the list price is for 1 shutter. If you are planning on buying less than 3 shutters, please read the description, look at the photos, and email us after the auction to let us know which shutter(s) you'd like.
Elegant, vintage shutters salvaged from the former home of Fred Woolworth in Monmouth Maine. If you're unfamiliar with the name, "Woolworth," their family began one of the largest retail stores in the world: "Woolworths." Originally, their stores were "five(cent)-and-dime" stores (the early 99-cent or discount stores), but now, they focus on sporting goods, and own and operate, "Footlocker."
The huge home built on the family's 2,000 acre estate was built in 1952 and these were original to the home's construction. Each is made of solid pine or Douglas Fir and is painted hunter green on both sides.
Quirks & Considerations: Originally, these were installed as pairs, however, we only got 1, complete pair and 1 single without a mate. A pair could be made using #1 or 2 along with #3 (See last photo).
If you want to use these as singles, just be aware that each shutter has one rabbeted or stepped edge, which allows it to interlock with its mate-shutter. You could leave these edges on or cut them off. If you cut them off, the shutters will be 1/4" narrower (13 7/8"W).
One of Shutter#1's louvers and the bottom of one of its stiles has stress cracks, which are tight and not structurally threatening. Although they could be left "as is," we could close the cracks if you prefer--email us for a quote.
The middle of Shutter#3's bottom louver was pushed in slightly, but was glued and painted over at some point. Although it looks damaged, it's fine. However, if you prefer, we could replace the louver--email us for a quote.
Condition: All of the shutters are strong and sturdy, and good condition. They all have nicks, scratches, small nail holes, and peeling paint--minor cosmetic blemishes, which would be sanded out and/or covered once painted.
Modification: We could modify any shutter to suite your needs. We could trim or add to the height or width; replace louver portions with glass, wood, or screen; cut them in half to make 2 short shutters; etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
