What Is Saffron?
Saffron is the world's most expensive spice, it is called Red Gold in some countries too. There are different varieties of Saffron, but this Saffron is Afghan Negin Grade A Saffron. Chefs and cookers love ours because of its thicker and dark red filaments.
Saffron threads are the stigmas of the Crocus Sativus Linnaeus. Because of saffron health benefits, its price, and aromatic qualities, it is called “Queen of Spices,” and in Afghanistan, it is called, “Red Gold.” Its ethereal flavor makes a perfect enrichment for savory and sweetened plates. It takes 225,000 stigmas (or 75,000 blossoms) to make a pound of saffron. It comes from the internal of the amethyst-colored saffron crocus and must be hand-harvested due to its delicateness.

We import our family’s and other family farmers’ saffron to United States. Heray Spice Team is a group of three US Army linguists, and their families, who served the Army in Afghanistan. On 2014 we immigrated to Chicago; after three years of being in US we are looking for an opportunity to “replace weapons with pens” by importing natural Afghan saffron to United States and building schools for Afghan children.

How much to use? -There are approximately 350 threads (3/8” to ½” in length) in 1 gram of saffron so 1 gram would be good for approximately 50 servings. -Use 6 - 9 stigmas per servings.
