This listing is for skeins of 50% cotton/wool recycled yarn. The yarn is cream and sport weight, so perfect for knitting hats and mitts. It can also be used for crochet. You could hold multiple strands together to create a bulkier yarn.
>>> SKEINS AVAILABLE <<<
There are 3 skeins available:
(1) 251 metres (2) 219 metres (3) 210 metres
The lengths indicated above are approximate as they are counted by hand, however, it is highly likely you’ll have more yarn than less.
There is only one skein of each length available. To order multiple skeins of the same yarn, you will need to add them to your shopping cart one at a time.
>>> ABOUT THIS YARN <<<
This beautiful, natural yarn was reclaimed from a Boden sweater.
You can see a photograph of the original garment on Instagram. Just search for the hashtag #martinemakes101.
I take great care when selecting garments. They must be in good condition and I only work with natural fibres.
>>> MY PROCESS <<<
This is how I reclaim yarn:
I carefully unpicked the garment and unravelled it using my wool winder. After that, I wound the yarn into skeins and soaked them in mild, unscented detergent. Then I rinsed the skeins and gently stretched them to remove the kinks. The skeins then dry out in the Guernsey sunshine.
If needed, I will run the yarn through my electric spinning wheel to re-twist the plies. The yarn is soaked again to set the twist and left to dry.
This yarn was originally 3 ply, but I plied two strands together to create a bouncier 6-ply (sport weight) yarn.
The whole process takes around 5 days (depending on the weather!)
>>> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION <<<
I recommend that you hand wash whatever you make from this lovely yarn.
My home is non-smoking but animal-friendly.
Photographed on a willow tree in my garden.
If you’d like your skein wound into a ball, add a note during the checkout process.
