Native to the US, this plant is also known as Strawberry Sticks, Strawberry Blite, Beet Berry, Indian Paint, Indian Ink. It is used as a culinary plant, as both leaves and berries are edible. Leaves taste like mild spinach can be eaten raw or cooked and are high in vitamin A and C. Berries are slightly sweet and add texture and color to salads.
The berries are also used as a dye for skin and textiles and can also be used as a food coloring.
This plant has also been used as a lotion for black eyes and bruises.
Requires full sun and rich, fertile soil. Can grown to 18" high and 12" wide.
