NOTE: The Osage Orange Wedge has been removed, a Hickory Wedge was instead used. The first photograph shows the current wedge, the other images are with the old wedge.
Kelly Works Woodslasher. This brand by Kelly was made both in their plant st Louisville (1874-1897) and in Charleston (1904-1930) like about 5 other Woodslashers that I have, it is also marked NYCRR on the back, for New York City Railroad. Hung on a lovely heartwood hickory handle with osage orange wedge.
We restore vintage axes that range from 50 years to almost 200 year old. Because of the age and the nature of a striking tool, there may be signs of use such as tool marks, mushrooming, pitting, minor distortions, chips, etc. Vintage handles may have the following signs of use; chips, pits, dents, cracks, holes, etc. When these signs of use affect performance they are fixed, but otherwise considered cosmetic in nature and part of the charm of a vintage axe.
Please check and comply with your country, state or local laws on purchasing and owning an edged tool. Use appropriate personal protection equipment when handling and operating an axe. We are not responsible for any injuries that result from misuse or mishandling of our axes.
