Item details

This is a set of wooden starter rounds (#40A&B), for making the center of a pine needle or any other coil woven basket. This is a matched set, so they can be used to make a lidded basket, or to make two open baskets. They are made from Oak. My Dad and husband create these wooden basket inserts from fallen or downed trees on Dad's property here in the local area.

These rounds are each approximately 5-1/4 inches in diameter, so they will make a great start for a large basket very quickly. Both pieces of the wood vary in grain and pattern, but they are the same type wood and match well. Each will give you a unique and beautiful finished basket, or lidded basket. My completed baskets are finished with at least 5 coats of shellac, which brings out the beauty and grain of the wood.

These wooden rounds were lightly sanded after the holes were bored, and can be used as they are, but you may want to sand them again before starting your basket.

These are the same type of wooden inserts I use when teaching basketry classes, and to make my own baskets.

These wooden starter rounds are completely handmade. Therefore, it is impossible for them to be machine perfect. The wood will sometimes have small blemishes and imperfections that are characteristic of unfinished wood. Please look at the pictures closely, and If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Your satisfaction with your purchase is my goal.
