Item details

We will be out of town from Sunday 11/26 until Tuesday 12/5 and will be unable to ship any orders until 12/6 or later. Please feel free to shop and purchase if you don't mind waiting. Thank you! :-)
Handmade white oak base for antique or vintage 3/4-size sewing machine. This base will accommodate all Singer 128, 185, 99, 128 and 99 clones, and most other 3/4-size vintage machines with approximately 12 1/8" x 6 1/2" bed. Please inquire if you are unsure whether your machine will fit. If we do not have a base listed presently that your machine will fit, I can make a custom base.

These bases include a lid for the storage compartment that doubles as a bed extension if you turn the base around under the machine. The pictures show the machine in both positions. The lids are matched in the same wood type and stain color (if base has a stained finish) and are also reversible.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND LOOK AT THE PICTURES, preferably with a normal-size screen. I won't be responsible for misinterpretation of the pictures if viewed on a smart phone or other tiny screen. These bases are neither the size of a smart phone screen nor the pictures that small, and are not intended to be viewed that way.
These are not imported Walmart/Hobby Lobby type items made from pressed cardboard with machine-applied mirror finish. I build in the rustic or primitive style using many vintage methods, tools, and joinery. I build what appeals to me and attempt the look of refinished antiques, and I like wood with a lot of character that shows its age. Please don't expect these to look or feel like brand new items.
This base is made from lumber recovered from a stable that was built around WW2. I try to choose the parts and orient them in a way to show the character of the old wood, including nail holes, cracks, knots and knot holes, and other things some may call flaws. This is done intentionally and are fully visible in the pictures if viewed on a normal-sized screen. I don't make items from furniture-grade wood or try to make them look fancy, but rather strive to imitate the character, condition, and appearance of antique furniture and primitive handmade items. I try to not place holes or knots in a location that will affect the use of the machine. These bases have a cotton cloth pulled across them to seek out snags before they are determined to be finished. However if you plan to rub satin, silk, or other fine linen across the wood and expect it to slide over it like glass, I can point you in the direction of another craftsman who builds a base more suitable. :-)
Pictures are of the actual base you will receive, except the photo of the bottom showing the felt feet. All the bases look the same from the bottom except your pads will be dark brown instead of the pictured tan.
