Twenty different 11" chimney sweep blocks are hand sewn into this 19th century quilt top. This top has never been washed as can be seen by the lack of raveling on the back. The fabrics can be dated to c 1875. A half mourning print and olive green sash the blocks. It measures 83 1/2" x 75". The blocks measure approximately 11 1/2" square.
There was some repair done on this quilt and not due to fabric deterioration, but more of a prior storage issue as it is in a straight row which could have been a fold line. See photo as an example. There is some yellowing in the background of the blocks. Fabrics appear to be strong and stable.
A beautiful quilt top for display, study and enjoyment.

All goods are machine washable and dryable unless specifically instructed not to do so. While I take great care to make all my quilts to withstand years of love, keep in mind they are made from organic materials that eventually break down from excessive exposure to sun, abrasion, and chemicals. With care these quality textiles can be enjoyed by many generations.
