Item details

White Nose:
This is the unwashed, raw lamb's wool from one of our Finnsheep lambs named White Nose. WN is a black Finnsheep, which means that his black fleece bleaches to brown at the tips. Finn wool is extremely low in lanolin, and WN had very little vegetable matter (V/M) in this fleece, so I would expect very little loss during washing.

Finn wool is the unsung hero in the spinning world: The hand is next-to-skin soft, a nice crimp gives spring and bounce, a soft shine gives the color a nice depth, and it is versatile… soft enough to wear next to your skin, tough enough for outerwear, and spins, dyes, and felts beautifully. Their lamb’s wool is ultra-soft, while still being easy to handle.
WN's fleece has a very nice crimp, a slightly shorter staple, and is super soft and light as a cloud.

Our small flock of sheep are raised on pasture and hay that we grow right here on Nine Trees Farm. I shear all of our sheep myself, ensuring that each fleece is carefully skirted with a minimum of second cuts.
This is the natural color of this wool... no bleaches, dyes, or chemicals were used.

The Stats:
Size; this fluffy cloud of wool weights approximately 0.6 pounds
Staple: Averaging 1.5 to 2.5 inches
v/m: light

Stumpy
This is the unwashed, raw lamb's wool from one of our Finnsheep lambs named Stumpy. Stumpy is a black Finnsheep, which means that his black fleece bleaches to brown at the tips. Finn wool is extremely low in lanolin, however, there is a moderate to heavy amount of vegetable matter (v/m) in his fleece. Most of it is fine particulate, and I suspect that a lot of it will come out during washing.

Stumpy's fleece has a wider crimp, but is super soft and light as a cloud.

Size; this fluffy cloud of wool weights approximately 0.7 pounds
Staple: Averaging around 3 inches
v/m: moderate to heavy

Evan:
This is a raw, unwashed fleece from our Gotland ram lamb Evan. Evan's fleece is EXREMELY soft and silky, and most of this fleece is composed of individual curly locks in a beautiful charcoal silver color.

Gotland sheep are relatively rare in the United States, but this tough breed's fleece is known world-wide for its gorgeous lustre, silky texture, and strength. Locks are med-long and curly. Gotland fleece makes a lovely, drapey yarn, and also felts very well. The metallic grey over-dyes beautifully, and the shine gives the color an inner glow. Gotland fleece is very low in lanolin, meaning there is much less loss in weight when they are washed.

Our small flock is raised on pasture and hay that we grow right here on Nine Trees Farm using sustainable agriculture practices. I shear all of our sheep myself, ensuring that the fleeces are very well skirted with a minimum of second cuts. I also rinsed Stuffy before I sheared her, meaning that her fleece is fairly clean with very little vegetable matter (v/m).

The Stats:
Weight: approx 1.2 pounds
Staple: 2-3 inches
Skirted: Yes... very well
V/M (vegetable matter): very low
