This is a lovely vintage wooden photo album. It is an authentic handmade gift from Vietnam of 1950s.
The cover was made of wood, hand painted with a picturesque oriental landscape and laquered. There are hinges for the pages lay flat when the album is open. On the back cover there is an inscription 'Mỹ Nghệ Việt Nam' which means 'Vietnamese art' (photo 9).
Lacquerware is a traditional fine art of Vietnam which goes back many years though no one knows for sure how many. It has been handed down from generation to generation as a family secret.
There are twenty dark gray double sided pages in the album. Sheets of embossed release paper divide the pages and will protect your photos. The pages are held together with a red fabric cord.
