Antiquator is more than just a stain. It is a chemical solution designed to produce an "aged" look on new softwood timber, giving it the colour and appearance of antique stripped pine, thus providing an excellent base for subsequent wax or oil finishes
If new softwood is treated with any of the normal range of spirit or water based stains the timber will still retain its new "shiny" appearance, albeit now a bit darker. The resulting look is that of new pine with a stain applied. It fools nobody. The effect of a prior application of Antiquator is to remove the shiny appearance and produce a result closely matching that of timber that has mellowed with age.
Can be used on newly manufactured items of furniture, architectural fittings (skirting boards, flooring, stairs etc.) as well as matching recent repairs to old furniture.
As used by professional furniture restorers. Achieves a depth of colour action unattainable with conventional stains and dyes. Tested and approved by Good Woodworking magazine.
