Ancient Egyptian sun god Ra is seen to roll across the sky each day, like dung beetle (Scarabaeidae), which roll dung into a ball for laying eggs. For these reasons the scarab was considered as a symbol of sun cycle and of the idea of rebirth or regeneration.
