Item details

Extreme knitting yarn Bolster is our largest giant knitting wool yarn roving blanket yarn at 1 stitch measuring 3″ and is perfect for knitting on giant needles or arm knitting ‘hygge’ style home furnishings or accessories. This listing is for an 11kg bump which provides a continuous length of fibre. Bolster, named after the famous Cornish giant of St Agnes was said to be so large that he could stand with one foot in Carn Brea and the other on St Agnes Beacon. Bolster is prepared from super soft 100% pure Merino wool combed top from non-mulesed British Falkland Island Merino sheep raised using organic farming methods. ONE STITCH: 3″ wide on 50mm needles.

This beautiful roving is ideal for knitting on giant needles or for arm knitting to make beautiful statement pieces for the home such as rugs, blankets, throws, pillows and cushions or knitted accessories such as scarves, cowls and wraps.

ONE STITCH: 3” wide and 4″ long on 50mm needles or use for arm knitting.
Length: 44 Yards / 40 m per 1kg

Ample grasslands, low-stocking densities, and nearly nonexistent disease pressure has made organic methods the default approach of Falkland’s ranchers. In the Falklands, there is no need for sheep dipping, where the animals are literally bathed in potent parasiticides, nor is it necessary to carry out the controversial practice of mulesing to avoid the fly (and maggot) infestations which are a huge problem in warmer climates. Animal welfare groups are actively campaigning against mulesing and neither practice is permitted under organic standards.

Giant knitting and extreme knitting are great fun and the yarns knit up quickly into soft and cosy statement pieces. The following is a rough guide but please feel free to contact me for more precise guidance:

Cowl = 1 x 1kg
Throw 36″ x 60″ = 4kg
Blanket 48″ x 80″ = 7kg

Professional Dry Clean Only or spot clean. The roving can be washed and lightly felted prior to use.
